Slide notes:The Office of the National Coordinator, commonly known as ONC, was established through an Executive Order in 2004, and was legislatively mandated in the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health, or HITECH, Act of 2009. ONC is the office within the Department of Health and Human Services that coordinates nationwide efforts to promote the adoption of electronic health records and to promote the electronic exchange of health information between care providers.
