Slide notes:How successful has the meaningful use program been? In terms of spurring the adoption of electronic health records, or EHRs, it has been quite successful. Whether office-based physicians, emergency departments, outpatient departments, or hospitals, the proportion of those using electronic health records has increased substantially since the beginning of the program. Probably the most successful measure has been in hospitals, with 96.9% of all U.S. hospitals now having an electronic health record, even if they have not achieved meaningful use with it. That is, in essence, near universal adoption of EHRs in hospitals. 15
